Hatched: Whenua Hou/Codfish Island, 24 March 2011

Mother: Aranga

Father: Blades

Named After: A small, coastal settlement regarded as a special area for local Maōri (Murihiku Ngāi Tahu) for its rich food and cultural resources and for the treasured species in the area.

Waikawa is the first kākāpō successfully hatched from an egg that was artificially incubated right from laying.

In 2016 Waikawa also became the youngest female kākāpō to ever successfully breed. However, sadly, only one of her four chicks survived though to fledgling.
