Hatched: Maud Island, 03 March 1998
Father: Richard Henry
Named after: Ngati Kuia, iwi (local Maōri people) for Maud Island. Kuia means ‘wise, old woman’.
Kuia is one of just three kākāpō – and the only female – to carry Richard Henry’s Fiordland genes. Her ability to successfully breed will be crucial to ensuring genetic diversity in the kākāpō population.
